The #1 Pinterest Mistake Every Business Must Avoid

The #1 Pinterest Mistake Every Business Must Avoid

Do you pin? I pin. In fact my latest social media obsession is Pinterest. And apparently I’m not alone. Over 23 million people have become hooked on Pinterest. So the big question is what are you waiting for?

You could be forgiven for not knowing what Pinterest is. So in case you haven’t heard, Pinterest is the new media darling and the hottest social network right now.

Thanks to its strongly visual interface that allows you to organize and share images you find from around the Web, this exciting platform is attracting thousands of new users every day, including businesses.

Pinterest Mistake you must avoid

Pinterest users or “pinners” can create boards and pin images of anything from Grandma’s apple pie recipe, wedding ideas and quirky crafts to vision boards, business plans and dream vacations.

Users can also browse other peoples’ boards for inspiration and add or “repin” interesting content to their own boards. In fact, repinning accounts for 80% of all activity on Pinterest, making Pinterest an extremely viral platform, compared with Twitter where only 1.4% of all tweets are retweets.

Now why should a business take note of this? Well, most pins on Pinterest are linked to the source of the image, which enables users to click on the image and visit the website where that content “lives”.

In January 2011, Pinterest had fewer than 120,000 users. Today the site has over 23 million users and has overtaken other established social photo sharing sites like Flickr and Picasa. With its growing popularity and users actively repinning thousands of pins every day, the potential for Pinterest as a SEO tool for your business is huge.

Although Pinterest no longer has do-follow links anything that gets pinned on Pinterest that links directly to your website can still provide incredible high quality traffic to your website. But only if you know how to make Pinterest work in your favor.

So the big question is – are you committing the cardinal sin on Pinterest? Are you accidentally turning off the tap and HIDING your boards from Google and other search engines?

This is very easy to do and I’ve come across many Pinterest newbies who fall into this trap. They beaver away and create captivating boards with keyword-rich descriptions and beautiful pins, never realizing that they are completely hidden from the search engines. Never to be found!

Don’t miss out on the massive traffic that could be heading your way! Don’t make this Pinterest Mistake, You can instantly fix your Pinterest settings in 3 simple steps:
